The public is invited to an audience-driven mayoral candidate debate between Councilman Peter Melan and Mayor Salvatore J. Panto, Jr. on Monday, May 8, 2023, at 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in Colton Chapel on Lafayette College’s campus. Mr. Panto has served as mayor of Easton in 1984-1992 and also since 2008. Mr. Melan has served as an at-large councilman on Easton’s city council since 2016. The debate will address vital issues facing Easton today. Melan and Panto are running in the May 16 Democratic primary election. No Republican has filed for a mayoral candidacy in the primary.
Members of the public are invited to post possible questions they would like addressed during the debate at https://forms.gle/uMEfDa8qynUhpvCU9. Audience members will also be able to submit questions during the May 8 debate. Parking is available at the parking deck behind the Markle Hall administration building on High Street.
The debate will be moderated by Professor John Kincaid, Director of the Robert B. & Helen S. Meyner Center for the Study of State and Local Government at Lafayette College. The debate is co-hosted by the Meyner Center and by the Landis Center for Community Engagement, Lafayette Votes, and Lafayette College Democrats.
