The Meyner Center continues to work with Race for Peace, a nonprofit organization, to improve police-community relations in the greater Philadelphia region. The first major event was a summit on October 29, 2016, held at the 48th Street Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in West Philadelphia and attended by more than 125 people. The summit, facilitated by the Center’s Associate Director for Public Service, David Woglom, was the result of work by an organizing committee consisting of more than 20 police chiefs, elected municipal officials, and civic and religious leaders. Summit participants aired not only concerns but also constructive ideas for improving police-community relations. There have been ongoing follow-up events, including a program at Zion Baptist Church in Ardmore, with a meet-and-greet with police officers planned for the King of Prussia Mall in Upper Merion Township and another summit at the Clara Mohammed Mosque in Philadelphia.
